What were the best 5 things to happen in Barry in 2013?

The end of the year is always a good time to reflect on the past 12 months and also identify what can be learnt from the experience in the effort to make Barry yet better.

Here are the Barry IdeasBank selection for the Top 5 Things in Barry for 2013 are:

1. The success of the Barry Town United Supporters where they took on the might of the Welsh FA to fight for justice, right a wrong, and succeeded in keeping their club alive. A profound lesson not just for football fans around the world, but for the Barry community, in standing up and fighting for your rights. A crowd of 2,000 for the pre-season friendly against Cardiff City along with, at the time of writing, an unbeaten league run, new sports development partnerships with the Vale Council all show the ludicrousness of the Welsh FA plans not to readmit the team to the League.

2. The Barry Ideasbank and Barry Kucha event in April - OK we are biased here - but we are now, we believe, the longest-running community Ideas resource in the UK. The Barry Kucha event in April at the Memo was a great community experience. We are hoping to announce in the New Year great plans for YOUR Ideasbank.

3. The summertime events: glorious weather, an interesting range of events by the Vale of Glamorgan Council's Tourism team, combined to create magical memories

4. Great live music events - from GlastonBarry to Glyn Poolley Friendship Tree Acoustic festival at the Knap, to the acoustic nights at the Dolphin, demonstrate a buzzing music scene in Barry.

5. Tough call but finally opt for the launch of Barrybados helping to spread Barry's fame far and wide - and promote a new meme for the town.

What would be in your top 5 things that happened in Barry in 2013?

1) Barry town FC finally freeing themselves from the shackles of their owner and beating the archaic welsh F.A in court

2) Finally some end in sight to the Barry link road saga

3) Eastern promenade getting a makeover ( hopefully start of a reinvigorated Island)

4) Brand Barrybados- For promoting the town in a positive sense

5) Barry island weekenders- Especially the films which had a good turnout which should give any prospective Cinema/Leisure operators Confidence that any Permanent Cinema would be well used as its something barry people want and Need

I`d like to add the Barry Wartime Weekend - which firmly placed Barry on the Heritage Toruism circuit while educating its people about their wartime heritage.  The Spitfire, kindly sponsored by Barry Town Council was centerpiece, and proved extremely popular.

Thanks to Premier Inn, Dow Corning, Barry Town Council, Newydd, John's Cafe, Specktrum Displays for sponsoring the event.

This year`s event will take play (subject to me finding sponsors) on Aug 30 / 31.  The event will feature a large aspect of the Great War, in this Centenary year,
