Behind every idea is a story. Every 3 months the Barry Ideasbank will be providing the opportunity for inspiring local people to share their stories on what they are doing to make Barry even better.

Seven inspirational local heroes marked the re-launch of the Barry IdeasBank on Monday October 20th at the Memo Arts Centre, Barry.

The speakers included:

• Penni Carr who devises creative ways to make it fun for babies and children to learn Welsh
• David Cole talking about the heroic efforts of Barry Town United football supporters, who rallied the local community and the wider football family to take on the might of the Welsh Football Association to keep their club alive
• Friends of Barry beaches who organize monthly clean-ups of Barry’s beaches
• Kate Long of the Memo Arts Centre who is working to create a new state-of-the-art cinema for Barry
• Stonehouse Mugalaval who enables Barry people to help an orphanage in his Kenyan homeland
• Elwyn Toozer who led a campaign to save his local bus service from closure.

•Chris Jennings - my granddad - a FA Cup Final hero in 1923
•Simon Martin - Barry’s international beer expert
• The Barry Town Football Club Supporters Club on how they saved their football club.
• Hilary Brown who promotes celebrating Jamaican culture and pride in Barry
• Tony Hopkins whose butchers shop bags are photographed all around the world by his customers.
• Paul Rebane, local school teacher and lead singer with soul band Dansette
• Claire Scantlebury from Barry Island on how she connects with some of the world’s greatest thinkers
• Marco Zeraschi on the incredible story of worldwide fame
